Description:

ThroStatz is a WebApp which uses the Apple Watch to record data while the user is throwing a football. It then uses this data to generate relevant statistics for each throw and helps users improve their throwing form.

Inspiration:

We were inspired by a love for football and hoped we could develop a tool to improve data collection and analysis for a football throw that anyone could use, not just NFL quarterbacks .

What it does:

ThroStatz uses the Apple watch accelerometer to collect data for each football throw and then analyzes this data to provide the user with useful information to improve their performance. It works seamlessly with apple watch and displays this data onto a web application.

How we built it:

This project was built with the Apple Watch API to collect the data. We then used Flask and python scripts to analyze this data and push stats to the WebApp. The WebApp then displays this data in a useful way.

Challenges we ran into:

Lack of knowledge of both the Apple Watch API and Swift posed a significant challenge which we were able to overcome in a short span of time. Interpreting the data obtained from the Apple watch required research into the physical aspects of a football throw.

Accomplishments that we're proud of:

We are proud of being able to finish a project of this scale in a very short span of time. We are also proud of being able create an application that any football fan or athlete can use to improve their game.

What we learned:

We learned both the Apple Watch API as well as the Swift programming language. We also learned the complex physics behind an action as simple as a football throw. Lastly we learned to link together a full-stack application where different components used different kinds of hardware and software.

What's next:

Full integration within the Apple Watch Environment as well as improving the ease of use and quality of life of the application.

Built with:

This project was built with: Apple Watch API Swift Python Flask HTML CSS Javascript
