UWork is a workplace management and communication app where the employees can schedule their own shifts and easily choose replacement shifts from made available to them by their coworkers. Also, the owner/manager of the workplace can make announcements to let their employees know of important updates.
The app is a result of the lack of proper digitization of the workplace environment, especially in student jobs.
The app lets the employees can schedule their own shifts and easily choose replacement shifts from made available to them by their coworkers. Also, the owner/manager of the workplace can make announcements to let their employees know of important updates.
We divided ourselves into different components of the app, half the team working on front-end and the other half on back-end.
16 hours into the project, the build gradle system associated with the Android Studio crashed. It took us nearly 4 hours to resurface the project as we could not use an older version of it. Also, we faced a huge challenge integrating our database with Android Studio.
Inspite of the build gradle system crashing, we managed to revamp the project and design the workplace app.
Most of us were unfamiliar with android app development. Therefore, we learnt the overall structure of how to develop an app and how to implement it under crunch time.
The next step is to reach out to start-ups, non-profits and certain companies who are in need of a digitized environment for their work space but do not have the resources to use it.
The tools for the app were Android Studio, Eclipse and SQLite.
